Entertainment Video & DVD’s:
DVD’s older than six months: 7 days, renewable, and an unlimited number can be checked out
New and Circuit Exchange DVDs: 3 days, no renewals allowed, and limit to 3 per household
New Materials & Magazines :
14 days: Renewable
Library card applications are available at the circulation desk. Positive identification with a current Middlebury address must be presented to apply for a card. Applications must be signed by a parent or a legal guardian for children under age 18. Persons who own property in Middlebury but do not live here must show a property tax receipt.
Replacement cards cost $2.00. Identification must be presented for a replacement card to be issued.
Fines and Renewal Policy (effective October 4, 2010)
When fines exceed $5.00, a borrower’s card may not be used. A block is placed on the library card.Partial payments may be made on fines, but only the full price of lost or damaged items.
Patrons may not use the Internet or reserve books or other material if they currently have a fine on their card over $5.00.
Standard Fine Rate; $.10 a day, $2.00 a day for VHS and DVD, and $5.00 a day for Museum Passes and Kindle.
A pre-overdue notice is e mailed a few days before an item is due.
If an item is 14 days overdue, a notice will be mailed. The item must be returned, and a late fee will be charged. Late fees vary depending on the materials, but will not exceed $2.00 per item, $10.00 for DVD and VHS. except for the Kindle. The maximum late fee for the Kindle is $250. A replacement fee for the Kindle is $300.
Fines are not charged for days when the library is closed. Items returned in the book drop when the library is closed are considered returned the last day the library was open.
Items not on reserve may be renewed once by phone, on-line and in-person except for New DVD’s, Circuit Exchange DVD’s,Museum Passes, the Kindle, and Children Summer Reading/Nutmeg Books.
Patrons with Internet access can renew via the Web using My Account. Library card must be in good standing- no fines over $5.00.
